"Muslim women are oppressed! Let's liberate them by restricting their freedom to choose what they wear!" - This is what I hear when people talk about banning hijab, niqab, etc..
People should be allowed to choose what they wear. I'm a Muslim. I choose to wear hijab. I wear it as a sign of my faith. I wear it to be visibly Muslim, so that maybe people might change their opinions of Muslims if they see me doing good deeds. Why should people get to decide whether or not I can wear my headscarf?
In some countries, women are forced to wear hijab and are barred from choosing what they wear. This is oppression, and it is absolutely wrong. But you know what won't fix the problem? Barring people from choosing what they wear.

The burqa has been banned in Austria, Denmark, France, Belgium, Tajikistan, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Tunisia, Chad, Republic of Congo, Gabon, Netherlands, China, Morocco, Sri Lanka & Switzerland. Why is this symbol of women's oppression not banned in Australia??
